Here's all you need to know about the forms you need to match your state's tax form requirements, as well as how each copy is filed
Here are the number of tax form parts required by your state:

Certain cities in Alabama, Delaware, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio
and Pennsylvania require an 8-Part All-Purpose W-2 Form. Call your
state IRS office or your tax advisor for more information.

Are you filing via magnetic media? If you plan to file 250 or more Forms W-2, 1099, 104S, 5498, 6248, or W-2G, Federal copy A must be filed on magnetic media. That means you'll also need paper forms for those parts of a W-2 or 1099, which will be sent to the employee or payee. We can help! Our most popular magnetic media self-mailers feature a cover sheet which acts as an employer file or state copy. Inside the envelope are 3 or 4-inserts which act as the employee copies
